It is mostly a Swahili town and women can be seen chattering by in dark bui-bui or wrapped in brilliant multicolored kanga.
Mombasa is also a port and a commercial center and has a long and complex history. Walk through the streets of Old Town up to the Old Port to see the Dhows. The old town is a maze of narrow streets, mosques and crowded buildings, some with impressive carved doors or intricate balconies.
Later visit the MacKinnon market, Elephant Tusks and Indian Temple. Afterwards, transfer back to your hotel for lunch (Baobab Beach Resort)

Depart from your beach hotel in the morning and drive to Mombasa. Begin the tour with a visit Akamba Woodcraft at Changamwe where you can see the craftsmen at work and select your carvings at the lowest price you can ever get in the world. The Baobab forest along Mama Ngina Drive before proceeding to Fort Jesus Museum built by the Portuguese at the end of the 16th century. Fort Jesus dominates the entrance to Mombasa Harbor and commands good views over the Old Town. The Fort is now a national monument and houses an interesting museum.

A visit to a local medicine man enlightens you on his practice as well as giving you a chance to get treated for various ailments and you also could try his famous love charms. Apart from the medicine man, you will also see different day-to- day activities in the villages like the tapping of Palm wine from the coconut tree where you will have a taste of Coconut milk; you will see how the villager climbs the coconut palm tree and get down the coconut milk for you.
Thereafter you will visit a village of a polygamist where you will see inside his house, how he lives with his 2 wives, where they sleep, where they cook and what they grow in the farms.
Have time to see a small display of what they sell like small drums, batiks, and necklace beads. You will then be entertained by traditional dancers in the village. Have a walk in the village. Drive back to your hotel arriving before lunch.
Tour Itinerary
Depart from your beach hotel in the morning and drive through the countryside in Ukunda village where you will be able to see flora, fauna, farmlands with houses and villages and the beautiful tropical countryside.
The pickup time from your hotel is between 8am or 2pm to the bike centre which is likely 15min drive. You will choose the bike size and have briefing of the tour and start. Our biking is only slowly just to see the area of Diani and Ukunda
The ride is only on the forest path under the palm trees ;We will have a chance to visit a local community school and see how children they learn as well our Ukunda town and the local villages to see the people how they live in their local homestead and learn how to climb the coconut palm /test the coconut juice /coconut wine /learn how to cook African dishes eg ugali ….etc
We will finish with the local bush doctor who will show us his herbals and what kind of sickness he treats. Remember he is the only medicine man in the village.
After we will cycle back to our hotel.
Wasini Day Tours
Tour Itinerary
You will be picked from your hotel at around 7.15 am and drive to Wasini Island along Mombasa – Lunga Lunga highway, a distance of 100 kms, arriving at around 8.30 am.
Arrive at Shimoni Jet where you will board an Arabic dhow and sail for one hour searching for dolphins. Sail to Kisite marine national park where you will snorkel and swim.
Kisite Marine national park is the second most famous marine park in the world after the Australian Marine Park. It covers an area of 30km2. Animals seen here include turtles, marine tortoise, bearreeffs, coral reefs and different types of marine fishes.
You will have your lunch at Wasini Island which is mainly sea food and Swahili dishes. After lunch, after lunch visit Mangrove swamps and the Wasini Island where you will learn more about the Swahili people and the Arabs history.
In the 10th century, Arabs were slave traders and they used to inter marry with the Bantus at the coast and there we had the Swahili people. After the end of the slave trade in the 17th century, many Africans settled here and so don’t miss the opportunity to learn about the Swahili people. Arrive at the jet at around 4.00 pm and drive back to the hotel.
