Tour Itinerary
DAY 1: Machame Gate to Machame Camp.
Elevation (m): 1830m to 3100m Elevation (ft): 6000ft to 10,200ft Distance: 11km Hiking Time: 5-7 hours Habitat: Montane Forest Breakfast will be at 8.00 am then check out from the hotel (leave extra bag at the hotel with no extra charge). Drive to the gate of Mount Kilimanjaro National Park and preparation for entrance. Machame Camp. Lunch, dinner & overnight.
DAY 2: Machame Camp to Shira Camp.
Elevation (m): 3100m to 3840m Elevation (ft): 10,200ft to 12,600ft Distance: 9km Walking Time: 4-6 hours Habitat: Moorland Breakfast and continue trekking until Shira campsite. Lunch, dinner & overnight..
DAY 3: Shira Camp to Lava Tower to Barranco Camp.
Elevation (m): 3840m to 4630m to 3860m Elevation (ft): 12,600ft to 12,700ft Distance: 10 km Walking Time: 5-7 hours Habitat: Semi-desert Breakfast at 6.30 am, trek to Lava Tower (Shark’s Tooth) and continue to Barranco Camp. Lunch, dinner & overnight.
DAY 4: Barranco Camp to Karanga Camp Elevation (m): 3860m to 4200m
Elevation (ft): 12,700ft to 13780ft Elevation gain: 250m, 820ft Hiking Time: 3-5 hours Habitat: Alpine Desert Breakfast at 7.00 am Lunch, dinner & overnight.
DAY 5: Karanga Camp to Barafu Camp.
Elevation (m): 3860 to 4670m Elevation (ft): 13100ft to 15.100ft Distance: 4km Hiking Time: 4-5 hours Habitat: Alpine Desert Breakfast and continue to the Barafu.Overnight at Barafu Camp. Lunch, dinner & overnight.point] to Mweka Campsite.
DAY 6: Barafu Camp to Summit Attempt [via Stella
Elevation (m): Barafu Camp 4600m to Stella Point 5752m & Summit Uruhu5895m (and down to Millennium Camp 3950m) Distance: 5 km ascent / 10 km descent Hiking Time: Barafu Camp to Stella Point = 5-6 hours ascent
Stella point to Uruhu Peak = 1-2 hours ascent
Uruhu peak to Millenium Camp = 5-6 hours descent
[Overall walking may vary from 10-16 hours]
Altitude gain; 1072m [stella point] or 1215m [uhuru peak] Descent; 2075m.
Breakfast at 12 am and ascent to Stella Point (5685m) and Uhuru Peak.
Descent to Barafu, rest, lunch and continue to Millenium Camp site. Dinner &Overnight at Mweka Campsite.
Day 7: Mweka Campsite – Mweka Gate – Hotel.
Breakfast time: 7.00 a.m.
Walking distance: 20km / 12.5 miles.
Walking time: 5 hours.
Descent: 1990m/6530ft.
Habitat: Montane forest.
Breakfast & descent to Mweka gate, through Mweka Camp.At the Mweka gate you will be issued with a Kilimanjaro certificate to those who made it to the summit and then transfer by bus from Mweka gate to the hotel for a celebration. Dinner at hotel and overnight at Green Mountain Lodge Hotel or Similar.
